Shakes Nkuna, affectionately known to his listeners as “The Culture Boffin” and “Mr. Fond of Tradition”, is a passionate cultural activist and seasoned radio personality. Born in Giyani 42 years ago and raised in Mzinti, a rural village under the Nkomazi Municipality in Mpumalanga, South Africa, Shakes has built a name for himself as a strong voice for African heritage and tradition.


Radio Career
In 2002, Shakes joined Ligwalagwala FM, Mpumalanga’s leading radio station. He currently hosts the weekly cultural show “Sidla Ngaloludzala”, formerly known as “Umuntfu nenkholo yakhe”, where he unpacks deep-rooted African traditions and spiritual beliefs. Through his show, he bridges the gap between ancient customs and the modern world, making culture relevant and relatable to today’s society.
