Broadcasting Career
Mpumi joined Ligwalagwala FM in April 2014, making her mark as a co-host on the Asambe Drive Show (3–6 PM). Her talent, energy, and natural presence quickly earned her a move to the Kusile Mzansi Breakfast Show, where she currently co-hosts alongside Madumane, Shukuma, and Mancane (weekdays from 06:30–10:00). She is known for her willingness to share knowledge, her ever-friendly nature, and staying in tune with current trends and youth culture.
Education & Early Career
A proud alumna of Greendale School (matriculated 2005), Mpumi was actively involved in school activities, notably leading the debate society. In 2006, she pursued a BA Degree in Journalism at the University of Johannesburg, majoring in Communications and Sociology. While at UJ, she immersed herself in the arts, joining the university drama company and frequently performing at the arts centre.
After graduating in 2009, she worked as a Production Assistant at Broad Daylight Films, contributing to the production of political and current affairs content for a top news channel. She later joined a commercial broadcaster in its Electronic Programming Division and made her on-screen debut as a presenter on Ses’khona, Zoned, and Identity—all airing on SABC 1.
Mpumi’s radio journey began in 2013 with a presenting role at Emalahleni FM, marking the start of a flourishing broadcast career.
Beyond Broadcasting
Mpumi is one of the three national ambassadors of the Banking Association of South Africa’s flagship programme, Star Saver, alongside ProVerb and Sibusiso Vilane. The initiative promotes financial literacy among children, a cause close to her heart.
Her passions extend to travel, tourism, motivational speaking, and she dreams of becoming a media mogul, following in the footsteps of her name, “Nompumelelo,” which means “Success.”
