Ligwalagwala FM rebuilds local disabled centre

Mpumalanga - Ligwalagwala FM handed over Sitimisele disabled centre, which they have been rebuilding for the past year in eMbonisweni township, on the morning of 5th November 2020. The announcement comes as South Africa commemorates National Disability Rights Awareness Month annually between 3rd November and 3rd December, where 3rd December is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The building project is an initiative by Masakhane, a feature on Kusile Mzansi Breakfast Show which is presented by the seasoned radio personality Madumane in collaboration with Super B. The project was launched in May 2019 and involved public participation, to advance the living conditions of persons with disabilities and restore their dignity. Calls for assistance with building, specialized skills such as plumbing and fitting of electrical structures, were announced on-air, while partners such as Super B assisted financially. Members of the community were also actively involved in ensuring the project goes smoothly.
Commenting on the partnership, acting station manager at Ligwalagwala FM Ms Thembi Madubandlela said: “One of the pillars of Ligwalagwala FM’s 2020 Strategy places collaborations in the forefront in enhancing the ideals of social cohesion. It is in this regard that we see the collaboration with Super B fulfilling our mandate of exploring new spaces and audiences and to also expose our audiences to the work the station continues to do as a contribution within the Mpumalanga community.”
General manager of Blinkwater Meule Deon Vlok, whose subbrand Super B is at the forefront of the association said: “We are very pleased to launch this long-awaited project with Ligwalagwala FM. I admire the commitment the breakfast team displayed during the project. I am pleased with the existing partnership between our company as Super B continues to find value and enjoyment in this partnership.”
