MADUMANE CELEBRATES BECOMING ‘GRAND-PA KASI-STERRING’

Ligwalagwala FM is proud to announce that long-time breakfast show host Madumane has been acknowledged as the winner of the Grand-Pa Kasi-Sterring recognition program. The community builder accolade, championed by Grand-Pa, recognises pro bono or social responsibility efforts in one’s community. The competition appeals to members of the public to nominate a hero that makes a difference in their township or community; and the nominee could win R10,000 worth of relief to be used as the sterring pleases. According to the Grand-Pa commercial (Bomb Commercials, 2015), Kasi Sterrings are defined as “the heroes of their communities” and “caretakers that work as hard as Grand-Pa does” to relieve the aches and pains of everyday life.
Madumane, born Dumisane Simelane, has been hosting the breakfast show: Kusile Mzansi Breakfast Show on Ligwalagwala FM since 2004. He was nominated by avid listener, July Chirwa who said he saw an advert in Mpumalanga News about Grand-Pa Kasi Sterrings and sent a few sms’ to make sure his idol was realised. Chirwa said that he nominated Madumane because he was inspired by his work on the radio features Masakhane and The 5cent project, which urges the community to help collect 5 cent coins to help buy school uniform for under-privileged kids. In an official announcement on 2 February 2018 from The Brand Factory SA, a Johannesburg-based strategic brand and marketing agency that handles the Grand-Pa Kasi Sterrings account, the agency confirms the R10,000 relief to Madumane.
“It humbles me that our listeners are not only interested in the humour that my show brings every morning, but that they have observed that we also prioritise improving the lives of the less privileged people in our society”, said a grateful Madumane. He went on to add that he feels privileged to occupy the powerful radio medium that allows him to help those in-need, especially children and the elderly.
