LIGWALAGWALA FM BREAKS RACIAL BARRIERS

Ligwalagwala FM continues to champion social cohesion and break racial boundaries in the province not only in the rhetoric but also in action even during the scourge of covid19. This was evident in the latest food parcels donation that took place in the township of Msholozi near Whiteriver on 05 of April 2020. Food parcels gathered through the station’s flagship CSI programme Masakhane were donated to a kitchen soup establishment. The kitchen soup feeds and supports 50 destitute white people that live in a caravan park setup without proper accommodation and amenities. Most are unemployed and rely solely on the kitchen soup programme for their meals.

That activation came after a widespread covid19 CSI initiative led by the station in partnership with a variety of stakeholders where 100 food parcels were donated in Barberton, Alexandria Trust, Marite, Thushanang, Soweto, Oakley & CunningMoore A. The station’s CSI initiative also found its way into the coloured community of Nelsville where the plight if a bereaved family was raised and aid was given to that family to help them through a tough time.

“Our modus operandi is deeply entrenched in the values of Ubuntu. Values that know no racial, geographic nor social boundaries. We pride ourselves in being able to step in and help where there is a need. We have consistently shown that in all our CSI programmes. We are also unapologetic about living the values of our constitution that speaks non-racialism in a time where some racial tensions are building up around the world. We have to lead the way and conversations around destroying those walls and forging unity. The pandemic is a challenge to all of us and we ought to take care of each other to advance our position of a united rainbow nation.” -  Said Rio Mabunda, Ligwalagwala FM station manager and acting SABC provincial general manager for Mpumalanga.
