Frequency not clear

The problem that you experience with your reception of Ligwalagwala FM, is due to the fact, that where you live in Katlehong, you fall outside the coverage area of the Ligwalagwala FM transmitter on 89.3 MHz. The Ligwalagwala FM transmitter is located at our Pretoria transmitter site at De Wildt, near the Hartebeespoort Dam. Each transmitter or radio service, has got an intended coverage area, for Ligwalagwala FM on 89.3 MHz, the coverage area of this transmitter is Pretoria and North towards Bela-Bela. It is also a lower-powered transmitter, 1kW, which means that the signal will be weak in areas that the transmitter does not cover. We grade the transmitter coverage in grades A, B, and C, in your case Katlehong falls outside of even the C grade coverage.

If you de-tune your radio to 89.2 MHz, you do not receive the signal in stereo, so you get a bit of better reception on the mono FM signal.

The other stations that you hear, is because the Ligwalagwala FM signal level is low, and your radio then suffers to select between Ligwalagwala FM and Motsweding on 89.6 MHz and Lesedi on 88.4 MHz, both of which is very strong signals from our Johannesburg transmitters. ( both 10 kW transmitters)

Unfortunately, however it is possible to receive radio stations way outside their intended coverage areas, we cannot guarantee any sort of reasonable reception, that has no interference, outside of the C grade coverage of the signal. Unless there is a Ligwalagwala FM transmitter installed in Johannesburg, your reception on 89.3 Mhz, will not improve.

This is not just a problem with Ligwalagwala FM, but any other radio station you try to listen to, from outside the transmitter coverage area. The other radio stations you refer to, all transmit from Johannesburg that is why their signals are so good. I hope this explanation will help you better understand why you cannot get clear reception on the Ligwalagwala FM signal.
