Ngwane Primary School is based in Barberton. Like most schools in the province, they are faced with challenges that affect a child’s outlook about their school career and future prospects. Ligwalagwala FM and Izwelethu Development Trust came together through Teen Zone Presenter, Mlungisi “Professor” Mathebula and Mr. Erick Kholwana, Chairperson of Izwelethu Development Trust to identify a school and donate 30 pairs of school shoes to children whose lives are affected by this basic necessity.

Mlungisi, known to his peers as “Professor Mlu” of the Saturday morning 09:00- 10:00 show on Ligwalagwala FM, would begin his very school career at Ngwane Primary School some many years ago. It was inevitable that he would go back and impress upon his old school as alumni under the theme “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”  A teacher at the school, Miss Fekwayo helped identify the 30 kids who were in dire need of school shoes through a community building initiative done by the school; and the shoes, along with stationery and a portable radio were handed over to the kids on the 10th February 2017. The radio was handed-over so the school’s foundation phase class would be able to listen to the morning educational programs broadcasted weekly on Ligwalagwala FM from 09:00- 10:00 by Lender “Mancane” Malope.
Adding to the fact that many girls miss school every month because they do not have the necessary sanitary wear, The SABC and Ligwalagwala FM further donated sanitary packs to the school’s puberty-stricken girls. Ngwane Primary school was extremely grateful and sang praises to both the station the sponsors.
